Best Times to Post Blogs During the Holidays

The holiday season is a great time to reach customers who are interested in your business or looking to give someone they care about a meaningful gift. Blogs are a great way to optimize your site to rank in search engines and directly engage with people who might be interested in engaging with your business. Though SEO is primarily a long-term strategy, knowing the best times & days of the week to schedule blogs can help deliver immediate-term results

What’s the Best Time to Post Blogs During the Holidays?

Can You Post Blogs Too Early?

Not really! In fact, if you haven’t already started tailoring blog content toward the holidays, you may be playing from behind. Some companies start ramping up for Christmas, Hanukkah, and other winter holidays before Halloween, so having your holiday-centric blog strategy kick off in October may be the sweet spot in some sense.

But it’s also never too late to start posting seasonally relevant blog content. As long as you’re targeting the right audiences, covering topics that appeal to those audiences, and taking additional steps to boost the visibility of these blogs (e.g., sharing on social media), your blog posts start working right away.

What’s the Best Time of Day to Post a Blog?

There’s no real right or wrong answer here, but there are some guardrails that allow for good experimentation:

  • Weekdays: Avoid posting on weekends because it’s more likely that people are trying to distance themselves from electronic devices and take advantage of their time. Posting during the work week can be effective because people tend to use their phones when starting their days and during their lunch breaks. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays are popular days because people may still be adjusting to the work week after having the weekend off.
  • Weekends: On the flip side, scheduling posts on Saturdays and Sundays may mean having less competition.
  • Mornings: Along these same lines, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. is a nice sweet spot for blog posts because they’ll fall during the hours when people are gearing up, enjoying their coffee, and finding the will to start working.
  • Noonish: Posting blogs between the window of noon and 1 p.m. may allow you to capitalize on people taking their lunch breaks. Similarly, you may want to schedule a blog to go live in the morning and then share it via social media around lunchtime to maximize results.
  • Afternoons and Evenings: Scheduling blog posts to go live after traditional business hours may improve your visibility with people coming off their workdays. Alternatively, you can try sharing links to new blogs on social media in the afternoon and early evening.

Should You Post Blogs on a Holiday?

It’s certainly not the best idea. While people may browse the internet in the quiet hours before and after a holiday meal, they’re more likely to be focused on interacting with family. While blogs scheduled on days like Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, etc., may ultimately become successful as they build SEO value, they won’t likely drive immediate results.
